If you have bought a second hand table at a very cheap price the chances are that it requires (or will do soon) recovering. Many players buy a pool table at what they think is a cheap price without knowing the costs of renovation. Remember that many tables are sold because the owners realise these costs, or the table is old and not performing very well. An old table with hard cushion rubbers will not have very good bounce and will not play as well as it should.
Sometimes players find that by the time a table has been recovered, re-cushioned and other repairs made such as pockets etc, they discover that the table is not the bargain they first thought. Remember `new` slate bed tables are available from around £700 so one bought at £300 with between £150 and £250 renovation costs is not that cheap.
Let us suppose for now you have a good table, other then the cloth.
When you buy our `table recovery kit` you receive the cloth, adhesive, marking pencil and spots with detailed instructions on how to recover a standard pool table. It is possible to make an old grubby table look almost new! We are also available to help by phone or e-mail if you want further advise.
Blue Moon Leisure normally charge between £125 and £150 to recover a pool table, but some customers prefer the challenge of recovering their own and saving money at the same time. You can buy all the materials needed for around £85, depending on the quality and type of cloth you use. It is important to note that recovering your own table is not a difficult task for most pool table owners but can prove expensive if you have not got some basic handyman skills. If you ruin the cloth whilst recovering, a high quality cloth could cost around £60 to replace so you won't have saved much money! Having said this, if you follow the instructions carefully, most table owners are capable.
How long should it take? To achieve a good quality fit and top playing surface we would suggest you allow up to 5 hours. A skilled fitter of-course would do it quicker, but we are supposing you want both the bed and cushions recovered to make the table look its best. If you did decide to only recover the bed, it would of-course be much quicker, and many operators of rental tables do this to save both time and money.
Will it take more then one person? Our instructions will show how one person can recover the table, but if it is your first attempt it might help if you have a friend who can help you. The slates are heavy to lift, and if you do not have clamps to hold the cloth down an extra pair of hands will enable you to stretch the cloth for a good tight fit.
What tools would I need? Scissors, Screw-driver, Staple-Gun, and that's about it! The instruction booklet will show small clamps being used but you can get by without them. Everything else is included in the pack.
How do I get started? In the first instance we recommend you call our sales team who will ask some basic questions such as the type and colour of cloth you require. We will also ask you about the type of table you have, to make sure that the materials and information we send will be what you need. You can even send pictures of the table to discuss if it helps, though this is not normally necessary.
